ICDS and the Center for Immersive Experiences (CIE) at the Penn State University are seeking to fill a joint position for RISE Immersive Experiences Engineer in augmented, mixed, and virtual reality (i.e., XR or immersive technologies). RISE – Research Innovations with Scientists and Engineers – is a team of ICDS computational scientists and software engineers who provide support of high-performance computing to Penn State research projects. A RISE Immersive Experiences Engineer will be an integral contributor to a fast-paced and growing team of specialists supported by an exciting $60 million ongoing Penn State investment in research in computational and data sciences and Penn State’s signature initiative in immersive experiences. Penn State’s elite researchers use our high-performance research cloud to solve real-world problems by conducting simulations, data mining, and other high-performance computing operations. CIE offers state-of-the-art immersive technologies and a vibrant team of specialists in many related areas. With ICDS and CIE and associated researchers, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects. A RISE Immersive Experiences Engineer can have a range of qualifications and can come from several different backgrounds such as computer science, engineering, geography, architecture, digital arts, or information science. The ideal candidate must be adaptable and capable of thriving in a rapidly changing environment, where approaches and technologies may change quickly. This position will provide expert guidance for implementing Immersive Experiences and 3D Data Visualizations working with Penn State’s elite researchers on their projects which span all fields of research at Penn State. Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

Education and Experience Requirements: This position will be filled as a Research and Development Engineer Level 2 or 3, depending on the candidate’s education, qualification, and years of related experience.
This position will provide support for a broad range of researchers for a variety of datasets. Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Information Sciences, Computer Science, Digital Arts, Geography, or other Science disciplines, emphasizing computational science techniques. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is a plus. Candidates must also have impeccable ethics and integrity with a strong work ethic as well as strong interpersonal and written skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. At this time, work for this position has the potential to be performed in a hybrid model with a combination of remote and on-campus presence. |
