UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) seeks to enhance interdisciplinary collaborations between early-career researchers and seasoned Penn State faculty through a new program, the ICDS Junior Researcher Collaborations Funding Opportunity.

All Penn State faculty are encouraged to submit one or more proposals that describe projects that junior researchers — graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and non-tenure line research faculty — could contribute to and advance ICDS’ main interest areas of artificial intelligence, computational and data sciences, digital twins or quantum sciences.

Faculty should submit their project proposals prior to the deadline on Friday, May 16, 2025.

Current graduate students and postdocs, as well as incoming postdocs and non-tenure line research faculty will be able to review selected proposals on the ICDS website starting now. All final proposals will be uploaded by May 23, when students can start applying to contribute to projects that match their interests or expertise. Junor researchers are encouraged to apply to contribute to two projects, one being closely aligned with their existing research program, and a second project beyond their current research group.

The second project could also be replaced with service to the ICDS community. Junior researchers could contribute to ICDS’ RISE team of computational scientists and software engineers or by organizing ICDS-supported activities like symposia or seminars.

Junior researcher applications are due by June 16, 2025.

The call is led by Eric Ford, ICDS co-hire and distinguished professor in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics in the Eberly College of Science.

Penn State faculty can submit their research proposals on InfoReady.
