Institute for Computational and Data Sciences seeking director for Data Science Hub
Posted on August 25, 2025UNVIERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) is seeking a Penn State tenured faculty member with strong multi- and/or interdisciplinary research portfolios that connect to data sciences to serve as the Director for a newly established research hub, the Data Sciences Hub. This hub is central to ICDS’s mission to advance high-impact, cross-disciplinary research and innovation across the University.
A strong interdisciplinary research portfolio in data science, and demonstrated leadership in collaborative initiatives, is essential. Prior engagement with ICDS programs or initiatives is preferred but not required in order to apply.
Applications will be reviewed starting Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, and continue until the position is filled. Preferred start date is January 2026 but is negotiable.
Initial appointments will be for two years and are renewable. ICDS will provide research funds each year to be used as any combination of supplemental salary, research support funds, and/or teaching or service buyout.
The Director of the Data Sciences Hub will lead the strategic development of the research hub, foster collaboration across colleges and institutes, and catalyze new research initiatives. They will be responsible for shaping the hub’s research agenda, coordinating interdisciplinary programming such as seminars, symposia, seed grant initiatives, and supporting faculty engagement and recruitment aligned with hub priorities.
They will advise ICDS leadership on opportunities for growth, partnerships, and alignment with institutional goals, including strategic investments such as co-hires and equipment procurement. They will collaborate with the ICDS Director and ICDS leadership, and other hub directors to ensure operational effectiveness. Faculty directors will also represent their hub at university-wide events, faculty searches, and external engagements.
